From the Archive

Ashley's legwarmers.
London 2004. Gelatin Silver Print.

Today while organizing my new office/creative space I found a box of Ilford Paper labled "Test Strips and Extras" Inside I found a random assortment of black and white prints from my darkroom in London. This was one of the jems I discovered. A snapshot of my good friend Ashley lounging in her stripped leg warmers when she visited me from the states.

Self Portrait

Last week I photographed Adeline and I with the selftimer on my camera. The first shot turned out to be the best. But enjoy the others....

These outakes crack me up. Note, she has her toy camera during the shoot and while the timer was ticking she would take my picture, but each time drop her camera for the shot. I think it's time to take my friend Amanda's advice and load some film in one of my older cameras and let Adeline take real photos!

Bitter Bag

While waiting for the food to come out this was my light test shot. I was at the Windbag doing a small piece for Signature Montana Magazine's next issue. Love the color of that beer and the long shadows. It's like the beer is telling us...Fall is coming...

Trading the full moon for a rainbow

I set out Friday after dinner to photograph the full moon rising over the Spokane Hills. However, the weather had a different plan for me. It was stormy, raining and God blessed the Helena Valley with a beautiful rainbow. As I drove from the valley to the Gates of the Mountains I felt like the rainbow followed me. I pulled over to the side of the road often as I found vistas that inspired me. Spoiler alert...if you go to my web site you'll see a photograph of the rainbow above Holter Lake with a bolt of lightning!! I love summertime storms.

Tonight was opening night of the Helena Brewers baseball team. I love the shadows and the tones of this in black and white. For more action shots visit the Lisa Kunkel Photography Facebook page.

Lunchtime

After my morning photo shoot at the baseball field today, I wandered over to Memorial Park. There I found this girl, Sierra, eating her lunch. I couldn't walk away without making this photograph.

Congratulations little Eliza!

I had the pleasure of photographing head shots for Ms. Eliza Carey a couple weeks ago. She auditioned to be a model for the clothing company H&M....and this little girl got picked! I'd like to think my photo helped but in all honesty Eliza has a great personality and a fresh face and was just a JOY to photograph. Congrats Eliza! And if you remember from a couple posts ago, I also photographed her big sister Caroline. These two sisters were a hoot. I'm looking forward to photographing them again -- I have a great shoot in mind with rain boots. Although with all this rain we've had I might re-think that one.

JD

Today I was editing photos in the dinning room while JD and Adeline played in the office/spare bedroom. I snapped this sliver of JD, I like the strong vertical lines framing him in his green shirt and the green dust ruffle.

Starting to advertise

The amazing Lori Huseby at Edge Marketing designed this ad for me today. Love it! Baby Finna is looking super cute and I just love my name written in that font. This ad will be in the Helena Brewers' Baseball Program this summer, weeee.

Central Montana Flooding

Six-year-old Ronnie Wipf stands on a broken fence in the flooded Musselshell River before being told to get down by his father at the Martinsdale Colony Farms west of Harlowton yesterday. The Hutterite farmers had to evacuate 90 percent of their livestock. To view all my photographs from the day, visit my web site.

Adeline by JD

JD made this photograph of Adeline at the Hanley Wedding. Sweet shot JD. I love the cowboy, the native american and pregnant lady with the kid in the background. Random yet interesting.

Mrs. Luke Hanley

I had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid in my good friend Rinchen's wedding this past weekend in Arlee. Even though I was in the wedding and there were many other photographers taking care of business I just couldn't resist taking photos. This is my favorite image from the day. Rinchen took a break to get her dress tightened and let me make this portrait after. I can't wait to share the rest of my images soon. {for optimal viewing - click the image to enlarge}

Flowering flowers

It was nice to get out of the mountains last weekend and spend time in the Bighorn Basin. The grass was greener, the flowers were in full-bloom. Gorgeous colors and delightful aromas. Plus the birds chirping and sun shining, it was a great weekend.

Scenic Brew

I had the pleasure last week of taking some photographs of Scenic Brew for the Be Local publication by Edge Marketing. Scenic Brew is a quaint coffee shop in a strip mall near Office Depot.

Cool atmosphere and really yummy coffees and treats.

Fresh snow

When it snowed last night...it must have been snowing sideways. I took this photograph first thing this morning and by 3 pm ALL of the snow was gone.

Greybull sunroom

It's a different kind of kid photography when you're a trained photojournalist documenting the life of your own child...I wonder what Adeline will think later in life when she has so many photographs of herself to look over -- I will be adding this image to my book of favorites.

Date Night

JD and I enjoyed a date night with no baby last week. So after dinner he drove me around town so I could take some pictures.
This is my favorite from the night, Moonrise looking East.

Today's afternoon snowfall

A fluffy snow fell in Helena today. As much as I love winter I would very much so like to be outside walking everyday in the sunshine right now.

State AA Basketball

Bozeman defeats Billings West to claim the AA boys' crown.

This past weekend The Montana Standard hired me for extra help covering the State AA Basketball Tournament in Butte. Lots of teenagers but lots of good basketball.

Cheerleaders everywhere.

Yellowstone in winter

North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park, winter 2011

I recently came across this amazing photograph taken by my sister-in-law -- and I LOVE IT. I had to share it with others. I enjoy the beautiful tones, lines and overcast sky, she really brings across the overall feeling of being on that road. Bravo Steph!

Back on the sidelines

Montana Tech vs UM Western men's basketball in Butte.

This weekend The Montana Standard hired me to shoot some assignments. It was so much fun!! I shot Butte High girls basketball Friday night, a news/feature assignment Saturday afternoon and the above shot I made at the Tech vs Western game Saturday night. It was good to be back shooting sports and working with some former co-workers.
